WALTHER
LEAGUE
(ST. JOHN'S YOUTH)
The
original Walther League was named after an American Lutheran patriarch,
C.F.W. Walther (1811-1887). It began in 1893, but eventually was
disbanded in 1989. Our group decided on this name because we wanted
to revive the group in our church, and try to be as active as
they used to be.
St.
John's Walther League is open to any youth who has been confirmed
(as it was in the original Walther League). We usually meet for
lunch at 11:30 (following the church service) on the 2nd and 4th
Sunday's of every month. It focuses on education, fun and fellowship,
service, and some fundraising.

EDUCATION
Some of the educational activities we have done so far are getting
to know Vicar Dan and having Katie Ziebell speak to us about her
accident. We also have a Bible study in our youth room every Sunday
morning at 9:00am.
FUN
AND FELLOWSHIP
We do a number of fun activities together such as ping-pong, bowling,
crokinole, soccer, mini-putt, volleyball, and many others.
SERVICE
During lent, we prepared and served the dinners to the congregation
as an activity of service, as well as a fundraiser by putting
out a free-will offering basket. At Christmas time, we caroled
to people in the old-age homes to bring them some holiday cheer!
FUNDRAISING
Unfortunately, it costs money for some events (particularly the
large events such as retreats and youth gatherings), so we plan
fundraisers that are also some sort of service to the church or
community. Aside from the free-will offering at the Lenten dinners,
we also played the movie "Amazing Grace" for the congregation
and served them popcorn and drinks.
PLEASE
COME OUT AND JOIN US FOR SOME FUN AT ANY TIME!!
